Have you recently decided that you would like to vacation in Kona, located on the great Hawaiian Island of Big Island? If so and if this is your first time planning a Hawaiian vacation, you may be looking for some guidance. After all, many tourists want to make sure that their vacations are just how they imagined them to be.

The first step in planning the perfect Kona Hawaii vacation involves making all necessary travel arrangements. To do this first, it is important to have anticipated travel dates in mind. Once you know when you would like to travel to Hawaii and for how long, you can get started with making your travel plans. These travel plans should include your Hawaii airline reservations, car rental reservations, and your overnight accommodations.

Speaking of overnight accommodations, it is important to know that you have an unlimited number of options. Many Kona vacationers prefer staying in vacation rentals, as opposed to hotels and vacation resorts. You should consider doing the same. Whether you stay at a Kona vacation home, condo, apartment, cottage, or villa, you may enjoy many of the freedoms you gain access to, as well as many of the home like features. When examining Kona vacation rentals, including Kona vacation homes, be sure to closely examine rental features, rules and restrictions, as well as costs.

After travel arrangements have been made, vacationers, such as yourself, are encouraged to focus on activities. Ensuring that a vacation isn’t filled with one moment of boredom is the best way to have a great time. Hawaii, as well as Kona in particular, is filled with an unlimited number of activities that you and your traveling party are sure to enjoy. These activities, a few of which are highlighted below, are easy to research and examine with the use of the internet and Hawaii travel guides.

Adults visiting Kona Hawaii may enjoy a diving adventure. Scuba diving, as well as snorkeling, are two popular Hawaiian activities. For experienced divers, guided tours and rental stations are conveniently located along popular beach areas. Inexperienced divers can use their vacation as an opportunity to learn a new hobby. Diving companies, many of which provide lessons, are easy to find in Hawaii. For families vacationing together, Hawaii cruises should be examined. Kona is home to a number of day and dinner cruises, many of which are perfect for individuals of all ages. The cruises offered by Dolphin Discoveries come highly rated and recommended.

In addition to examining Kona Hawaii activities, it is also important to do the same with attractions. In many areas of Hawaii, including Kona, history is left intact. The best way to have the perfect vacation in Kona is to get out and experience the land, its history, and all that it has to offer. As with Hawaii activities, Kona attractions are easy to examine with the use of the internet or travel guides. To get you started, a few popular Kona Hawaii attractions that come highly rated and recommended are outlined below.

Adults visiting Kona Hawaii may enjoy visiting the Kona Brewing Company. There, you can not only eat a nice dinner or have a night out on the town, but you can also take a tour of the brewery and sample drinks! A family friendly attraction in Kona Hawaii is that of the Kaloko-Honokohau National Park. Situated on over one thousand acres of land, there is so much for everyone to do and see, including hike, visit Hawaiian places of worship, and view fishponds.

As highlighted above, there are a number of steps that you should take to properly plan for and prepare for your upcoming Kona Hawaii vacation. As a recap, these steps include making all of your travel arrangements, namely your Kona vacation rental reservations well in advance of your trip and examining popular Kona activities and attractions. Kona Village Resort is a relaxing all-inclusive luxury getaway on the Big Island of Hawaii, ideal for families and honeymooners who want to get away from it all. The resort is offering a Limited Special Internet Offer with daily rates from $590 per night for two guests.
The second link will get you more rates but they need to know when you will be traveling etc.

I prefer the Pacific Beach Hotel. I have stayed there four out of six times. It is not cheap, but it isn't the Hyatt either! It is a 3* hotel.
You should check out the Ohana Hotels on Expedia.com You might get a good one.
You could learn to surf from the Beach Boys, hike Diamond Head, go to the Arizona Memorial, tour the island by bus, eat at Dukes Canoe Club, or eat at Cheeseburger in Paradise, or for a less expensive place to eat, try Seaside Bar and Grill, that is on the corners of Seaside and Kuhio Ave on Oahu.
Numerous attractions to see (including the above mentioned), go to Dole Plantation, Iolani Palace, go see Dog the Bounty Hunter at his office.
No, it is not necessary to rent a car. You can get a four day Discovery thebus pass at any ABC store. It costs $20.00 for four consecutive days and you can get on and off any of the TheBus busses during those four days! It is a very good deal!
You can get your sunscreen at any ABC store instead of bringing it with you. Clothing is like summer wear (whatever you wear during the summer (no black clothing), flip flops, tshirts, no formal wear (they wear relaxed clothing there).
The Pacific Beach Hotel (Oceanarium Tower), has a buffet breakfast that is really good. You can eat there, and then not have to eat again until supper time!! It has a 280,000 gallon "fish tank" at this hotel. You can eat while watching the fish!! It is pretty cool!
The rooms have either two double beds or a king size bed in the rooms.
    I hope this helps you!!

The first time visiting Hawaii a cruise is good because you can see 3 or 4 islands & pick where you would like to stay next time. Saves a lot of time packing, unpacking, going to the airport, waiting for security, check in, check out etc.. Then again you can just stay in Napili Bay on the beach & use a hotel or condo as your home base. Condo's are much more cost effective having a kitchen/refrigerator in your room. You can pack lunches to take with during the day & nothing like sunset BBQ on the beach watching a Hawaiian Sunset. http://www.napilikai.com/

lots of coupon books in Hawaii you can save hundreds of dollars if you look. Many 2 for 1 meals/dinners.

My husband and I went to Oahu Feb. 2008. I rented our car online when I booked our flight, and also booked our sunset dinner cruise online and the day at the Polynesian Cultural Center. We took $2000 cash with us to have and we used pretty much all of it on food, souvenirs, gas for the car, etc.

That sounds like a great time to visit the islands. I'm sure you already know to avoid travel during any holiday as rates go up everywhere on the planet.

Since you have 5 children with you I would recommend staying at one of the larger resorts who now have programs for the kids. Your 12 and 14 year old are probably not going to be interested in the same things as the younger kids, but some things are great for the whole family, like the historical tours.

Regardless of where you decide to stay maybe consider hiring a local tour guide. The cost of the guide will more than pay for itself. Just book a guide through the resort, travel agency, or through Maui.net. There are so many free and fun things to do but most are not on the tourist maps. If they were then it wouldn't be free anymore. A local guide can show you the places that local go. I am actually surprised that nobody has recommended this yet. Do not accept any guide who just approaches you are the airport or on the beach. On Maui this might be safe but in Honolulu the crime rate is just as high as any other major city and yes they do target tourists.

Anyway, Maui is my favorite island. Lahaina has all the historical sites, plus there are plenty of beaches you can go to like the park at Kihei, dive shop right across the street to rent a few masks and fins. The kids can take turns swiiming right off that beach where there is almost no current so it is fairly safe and you can see so many tropical fish, just swim right along with them. Get some of those little inflatable arm bags for the younger kids. A guide can also arrange a trip up to Haleakula park where you can go down into the crater of you like. You could rent a car and make it yourself but you would miss so much.

The only problem I see is for your 4 and 5 year olds who are just a little too small to avail of a lot of the activities. This is why one of the larger resorts who have programs for the yound kids would be a great choice.

Anyway check out http://www.maui.net to find a guide or the best prices on hotels, resorts, everything you need. This is a local website run by some guys right in Kahului, Maui..

I honestly don't think you can have a bad time on Maui though. But do be careful in Honolulu where there is crime just like any other big city. I would get off of that island as soon as possible as all of the other islands are pretty safe. Honolulu is also a port city so plenty of shady characters around. Maybe contact Hapa Travel in Maui when you get there for more info about getting around the islands.

    Have a great time

    Hi (:

Well I live in hawaii and I believe Maui or Oahu would be the best.

Maui doesn't have a lot of people and Its beautiful! ^_^

Oahu is crowded, but also very lovely and tons of nice hotels.
It has more buildings and places to shop; depending on what you like^^

on oahu there's also a Atlantis submarine, where they take people out on a boat in the middle of the ocean and
you get to ride in a submarine and see all the fishs, sunken planes and stuff. its really cool.

oh and the big island is nice too, it has more of a country vibe theres horses and chickens everywhere :o
If you wanna see volcanoes then the big island would be a good choice [:

Beach is great. Hotel swimming pool too. Honolulu has an aquarium, a zoo, and a ocean discovery center for kids. Walk around to the different hotels and see what they have that your child might like to look at – like the Hilton has penguins and ponds and does a fireworks show on Friday nights.

And, if you walk around Waikiki at night you can see street performers – like giant teddy bears and caricaturists and musicians. Lots for little ones to look at :)

And sea life park has a few hands on exhibits where kids can touch baby turtles sometimes, and hermit crabs – stuff like that.
