    Currently it's $195rt to San Juan: http://www.farecompare.com/maps/myAirportCategoryMap.html?departure=PHL&category=Caribbean

I say "currently" because a sale fare could come along that's cheaper. You can sign up for sale alerts via the link I made, which shows you all of the published airfares between PHL and the Caribbean currently. You can even adjust the departure window at the top of that map, so it narrows down to only fares that apply during your spring break (I wasn't exactly sure which week that is). When you click a fare there, choose dates, it then even searches against some consolidators to see if a better "unpublished" fare is available for your dates.

The US dollar is weak compared to foreign currencies and the economy here is a disaster. People aren't traveling especially abroad since their dollar buys less. To try to entice US travelers the airlines have lowered fares from the US to international destinations. Conversely, many travelers from abroad are finding the US is a bargain right now. The dollar is weak and hotels have cut their rates due to low occupancy. The airlines see an opportunity to make some money on travel to the US and they are capitalizing on this opportunity.

When my son was flying home from Texas, I called every airline out there to get him a cheap flight. Most give a 10% discount but there is a charge….some were $25 for the discount…yup you guessed it….it didn't save me any money. In some cases it cost more. Also, FYI – if you book a one way flight…check the round trip cost, it's usually cheaper.

  • Wait until you are there and try to get a Chinese person to buy them for you or you will be drastically overcharged.

  • I have family in Singapore and I fly back pretty often. If you can find a fare for $800 round trip taxes and fees included, book it, because that's really cheap. Most of the time a roundtrip ticket from LA to Singapore is about $1,300, inclusive of airport fees and taxes, but the prices range anywhere from $800-$2,500 on economy.

The prices also tend to fluctuate daily, so I would suggest checking every day. Singapore airlines is the best airline to fly by far, but depending on when you book, their prices may be higher than other airlines. Cathay Pacific is their closest competitor so check there too. Also, it's sometimes better to book directly from the airline than from a discount site like Expedia.

Really, you just have to do a bit of shopping. I would suggest flying into Singapore rather than Malaysia, though; Changi Airport is beautiful and much more organized. Good luck!

Without a doubt flying will be more economical. With Gas now around $3.00 per gallon or more it's going to be very costly for you to drive that distance. find out how many miles it is to your destination. You can calculate around .51 each mile. This is what most businesses pay their employees for car expenses. This covers fuel and wear and tear on your vehicle.

Don't forget to calculate any stops you will be making for food and toll charges.

Check out Southwest Airlines and Delta.
