There are four Hawaiian Destinations that I will cover today in this Free Hawaii Guide: the Pali Lookout, the Punchbowl Crater, the U.S.S Arizona, and the Hilton Hawaii Villages Aloha Friday Party and Fireworks. The Pali Lookout is one of my absolute favorite free Hawaii spots here on Oahu. It sits atop a 985-foot cliff overlooking the Windward Coast. The trade winds that blow are so strong that you can lean into them and they hold you up. But remember to not wear dresses, things that can fly away or loose track of your small kids. Okay at least the kids won’t fly away. Pali Lookout is open during the days and is located on Pali Highway.

The Punchbowl Crater is another one of the free Hawaiian destinations that you shouldn’t miss. The top of an extinct volcano collapsed inward even before the original Hawaiians came to rest here, and is the site of a World War II Memorial and Cemetery. With Diamond Head right beside it and a look out onto Waikiki, the site is reverent, peaceful, and breathtaking.

The U.S.S. Arizona makes this list of free Hawaii vacation ideas because of its significance to the Hawaiian Islands and its demise during the attack on Pearl Harbor. The tour includes a movie depicting the events of the day and then a boat trip out to the observation deck that was placed above the resting Arizona. If you listen closely, you will here the voices of Americas Sailors below still speaking to you. This site does come with a negative however, the free tickets are on a first come first serve basis and the wait once there may be long. But overall it is still a must see.

Help answer the question about hawaii vacation

When is the best time for a Hawaii vacation with kids?
We would love to go to Hawaii next year (March or later) and wanted any input on the best time of year to go, where to stay, vacation packages, etc. We have 5 kids (ages 4, 5, 10, 12, & 14) also, so activities for the whole family would be awesome. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Oahu, hands down; but not all inclusive. There is a lot of tour agencies that advertise all inclusive Hawaii vacations but it usually just ends up being a packaged deal and not all inclusive. Be forewarned and know what you are getting into. Oahu may be the least expensive as explained before but they get you on the other stuff such as food prices and such. We just have a lot of hotel space that isn't getting filled right now that is making it cheap and yes all the airlines come here first before they depart to the neighboring islands.

    Just another local….

It depends on your cell phone carrier. For example, I have Verizon, and whomever I call on the same network it's free anytime. Since Hawaii is one of the 50 states it is covered in the Verizon Network. You can call your cell carrier to verify, and have her call hers.

  • There aren't too many all-inclusive resorts in Hawaii. Hawaii is better known for having condo resorts, with lots of space (as opposed to a hotel room) and kitchen facilities.

A good travel agent should be able to help you make arrangements for your trip, including tours.

Or, you could take an escorted tour of one or more islands. Escorted tours also usually provide at least some of your meals, so it's closer to all-inclusive.

But Hawaii is so easy to get around, you really do not need an escorted tour. You can get around easily yourself, and there are full and half-day tours that cover just about anything you'd want to do.

Which island do you want to visit? That also makes a difference in terms of what to do and how to get around. Oahu has more nightlife (in Honolulu and Waikiki), and Maui is the honeymoon "hot spot". The Big Island has the active volcano, and Kauai is very laid-back.

My husband and I were just there in May for our honeymoon. It was beautiful! I would go back in a heart beat! We stayed on Oahu for this trip but I had been there before and stayed on the Big Island. You're right it is an expensive trip but for us it was worth it. Try to spend at least a week there if not more. If you plan on only seeing one island be sure to do your research. Each island has something different to offer. I can tell you from experience that Oahu is the busiest island, but is still pretty peaceful on the North Shore. Oahu has a lot of varying climates. Around Diamond head it is arid and almost desert like, but only a few minutes farther inland and it is like a tropical rainforest. On the big island there is Volcanoes national park where you can see the lava that has flowed down the volcano. When I was there last the active volcano actually erupted. It was really awesome to see the lava steam as it hit the ocean. My uncle's family has always lived there and really love it. The spirit of Aloha is wonderful in Hawaii. We couldn't have asked for more friendly and accomodating people. There are many options if you want to see more then one island also. There are cruises that go from the west coast over to Hawaii and spend a day at each of the islands. There are seven islands but most cruises will go to Oahu, The big island, Maui and Kaui. You can also stay on one island and take a morning flight over to another island to spend the day if you like.
I know you can probably go to a place like Cancun for ALOT less money, but keep in mind that since Hawaii is an island you will find native flora that doesn't exist elsewhere and the hospitality is tops! If you want I can email you some of my pics from our last trip to Oahu. roman_breeze@yahoo.com. The Oahu visitors bureau has a website as well that you can visit and they will also send you email updates if you like.

The answer to your question is: ABSOLUTELY – and the bonus here is that its on my favorite cruise line – Celebrity!

Celebrity offers one-way Hawaii cruises where you spend 7 days cruising the islands and then 5 days "at-sea" returning to North America – generally, Ensenada, Mexico.

Princess also does one-way cruises, but only to a few islands and only when they "reposition" one of their ships to the South Pacific.

NCL cruises only in/around the islands – doesn't return to N. America.

Finally, the absolute best advice I can give you is not to use a travel website, but to talk to a good travel agent. Tell him/her what your needs are, and that "you are looking for the best deal".

There is no additional cost or hidden fees for their services and you'll have a name and a face to speak to, rather than merely inputting your name, address and credit card into an on-line form and hoping for the best! Personal service is everything.

Remember – planning the trip is a lot of the fun of travel.

    Bon voyage

  • Yes, people do think about taking a vacation to Hawaii.
and your comment indeed has merit.

  • If you'd like to have a variety of activities, Honolulu, on the island of Oahu, will be your best bet. The Hilton Hawaiian Village has oceanfront hotels, is close to tourist shopping,
lagoons, pools, and nightlife areas. Snorkeling is available at Hanauma Bay. There are dinner cruises in the ocean off Waikiki Beach. The rain forest near the Pali lookout is beautiful, and you can hike up into Diamondhead crater. Transportation is your choice — car rentals are cheaper by the week, and The Bus can take you anywhere on the island.
Take a trip Ewa for dinner at Haliewa Joe's one evening.
Check out the Honolulu Zoo and Aquarium and be sure to see the free Hula show at the Duke statue at sunset. Try a dinner at Honey's inside Koolau Golf Club for an unforgettable dinner and some Hawaiian music. Be sure to get a reservation.

Maui is more laid back, but there are still many things to do there. On Maui you MUST take the early morning trip up to the volcano to see the sunrise! You have never seen anything as beautiful. Bring the blanket from your hotel!!!

Kauai and Lanai are the quietest islands.

The key word is to have enough MONEY, as it is on the expensive side for tourists!

Just ask at the hotel desk about different activities — they're always happy to help!

  • On Oahu, the Pacific Beach Hotel would be my #1 choice. It is located right across the street from Waikiki Beach!

So I get it you want to come here and not spend money even though we need the money.
